Healing Through Aesthetics

Art Vitality Lab was created to improve health outcomes through therapeutic art. It is proven that thoughtfully designed healthcare environments can profoundly impact healing, recovery, and wellbeing. By partnering artists with senior living and healthcare facilities, we commission and place evidence-based artworks that transform clinical spaces into healing sanctuaries.

OUR VALUES

Artist-Centered
We believe artists deserve fair compensation and meaningful opportunities to contribute their talents to healing.

Evidence-Based
Every decision we make is grounded in research about how visual environments affect health and wellbeing.

Inclusive
We commission diverse artists whose work represents the communities served by healthcare and elder living facilities.

Collaborative
We work closely with healthcare clinicians, staff, patients, and families to understand the unique needs of each space.

Impact-Driven
Our success is measured by improved patient outcomes, staff satisfaction, and creating spaces that truly support healing.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND OUR WORK

Neuroaesthetics & Healing Environments
Our approach is rooted in neuroaesthetics, the interdisciplinary study of how our brains respond to art and beauty. Research consistently demonstrates that:

Visual elements matter
Nature imagery, abstract patterns, and specific color palettes can reduce cortisol levels and activate the parasympathetic nervous system.

Nature calms
Biophilia, the idea that humans have an innate, biologically-based affinity for nature and other life forms, can be expressed via landscapes and other natural elements. By incorporating biophilic design principles into our work, we improve well-being by reducing stress, boosting cognitive function, and speeding up healing in medical settings.

Context / Quality / relevance

Context is critical
Artwork appropriate for a pediatric oncology unit differs vastly from what works in a memory care facility or rehabilitation center.

Quality impacts outcomes
Professionally curated, high-quality artwork creates more significant therapeutic effects than generic decorative pieces.

Contemporary relevance is key

We stay current with the latest research and work with advisors in psychology, neuroscience, and healthcare design to ensure our selections are aligned with the present and evidence-based.
